Anarkali Lake, located in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. This ecologically significant wetland supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna. To evaluate the aquatic insect diversity of Anarkali Lake, a survey was conducted in 2017. The findings revealed a high diversity of aquatic insects, with representatives from nine insect orders. Hemiptera was the most dominant group, comprising 37.50% of the insect species, followed by Coleoptera (15.63%), Odonata (9.38%), Diptera (9.38%), Ephemeroptera (9.38%), Lepidoptera (9.38%), Araneae (3.13%), Acarina (3.13%) and Trichoptera (3.13%). Diversity indices were also calculated to better understand species distribution within the ecosystem. The dominance of Hemiptera, Coleoptera, and Odonata indicates that Anarkali Lake is relatively less polluted and supports a healthy aquatic environment. The results of the present investigation highlight how sensitive insect communities are to changes in their surroundings and provide insights into the complex ecological processes found in aquatic habitats.
