      abstract = {Groundwater samples are collected from different locations in and around Karaikal region and their physicochemical characteristics. The present investigation is focused on the determination of physicochemical parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Hardness (TH), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Calcium (Ca), Chlorides (Cl), Sulphate (SO42-) and Nitrate (NO3) for Groundwater suitability for domestic and irrigation purposes to be examined by WHO and BIS standards. Thus, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the water quality index of groundwater especially in and around Karaikal region where groundwater is used for drinking and domestic purposes.},
