IoT-Based Food Monitoring System
Subject area: Science,Engineering and Technology · Area of research: IoT
Abstract
Food safety and hygiene is a major concern to prevent food waste. Quality food needs to be monitored and prevented from rotting and decaying atmospheric factors such as temperature, humidity and darkness. Therefore, it is useful to deploy quality monitoring equipment in grocery stores. These quality monitoring devices keep watch an environmental factor that causes or accelerates the decomposition of food. Later environmental factors can be controlled as refrigeration, vacuum storage, etc. In this project, food quality is similar a monitoring device will be designed to monitor environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, alcohol content and exposure to light. The device is built on the Arduino UNO, which is a popular prototyping board. The Arduino board is connected to various sensors like DHT-11 for temperature and humidity monitoring, MQ3 for alcohol detection content and LDR to measure light explosion. This is an IoT device and it sends measured values sensor data to the IoT platform. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi modem is connected to the Arduino connect it to the Internet through a Wi-Fi router. Sensor data is also displayed on the character LCD connected to Arduino UNO. An IOT platform used for sensor recording and monitoring data is Freeboard.io. Thanks to the power of the Internet of Things, they influence environmental factors the food warehouse can be monitored from anywhere, anytime and from any device.
