Abstract

This paper explores best practices for managing data center lifecycle projects within U.S. enterprises, with a focus on ensuring security, efficiency, and compliance. Data centers are crucial for modern business operations, handling vast amounts of sensitive information and supporting digital infrastructures. The lifecycle of a data center?from planning and design through to deployment, operations, and decommissioning?requires careful management to meet the evolving demands of security, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This paper delves into the key challenges and solutions for managing the lifecycle of data centers, emphasizing the importance of integrating robust security measures, efficient resource utilization, and adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, GDPR, and PCI-DSS. The paper further highlights the role of sustainability practices, energy efficiency, and emerging technologies in optimizing data center operations. The paper provides actionable recommendations for data center managers and executives through a detailed analysis of best practices, focusing on policy development, strategic planning, resource management, and staff training. The findings suggest that a holistic and integrated approach to data center lifecycle management is essential for maintaining security, reducing operational costs, and ensuring long-term sustainability in U.S. enterprises.
