Abstract

This study investigated the effect of supply chain management on firm performance in the Fast-moving consumer goods sector of Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. Cadbury Nigeria Plc and Pepsi Cola, Lagos. were purposively selected for the study, and the study population includes seven hundred and eighty-one (781). employees of the studied firms. Two hundred and sixty-four (264) employees were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Primary data was employed and a primary instrument (self-administered questionnaire) was designed to collect the data from the respondents. The survey data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics to achieve the mean, frequency distribution, and percentage of data collected, and an inferential statistical tool (linear regression analysis) was used to test the study’s hypotheses with the aid of SPSS version 26. The findings of the study reveal that strategic procurement has a positive and significant effect on production efficiency, strategic supply partnership has a positive and significant effect on quick delivery, and customer relationship has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction. It is, therefore, concluded that supply chain management has a significant effect on firm performance in the Fast-moving consumer goods sector of Nigeria. The FMCG in Nigeria is becoming resilient and dynamic in the supply chain to adapt to changes in the business environment and respond quickly to market demand. The study recommends that managers of firms should put in place an effective risk assessment strategy in their procurement plans in the course of sourcing raw materials for production. This would facilitate the quick delivery of raw materials for production and production efficiency would be optimized towards meeting the needs of the consumers at the right time.
