Abstract

This research looks into how prefabricated buildings could help reduce the serious housing shortage in Lagos, Nigeria, by gathering opinions from construction experts. Prefabrication is a modern building method where parts are made off-site and then assembled on-site. It has advantages like faster building times, better quality control, and being more environmentally friendly. As Lagos continues to grow quickly, traditional building methods are falling short in keeping up with housing needs. A survey of 95 construction professionals from major organizations in Lagos was carried out to understand their knowledge, opinions, and readiness to use prefabrication. Results showed that while most respondents (75.5%) are familiar with the method, few actually use it. The main reasons include lack of awareness campaigns, high startup costs, weak government support, and problems with getting materials. Still, many believe that prefabrication could help reduce the housing shortage by as much as 20%, mainly because of its speed and sustainability. The study suggests that with the right policies, more training, and public education, prefabricated construction could be a strong solution to the housing problem in Lagos. Future research should look into how well these buildings perform in tropical weather, how policies can be shaped locally, and how to make them more culturally acceptable.
