Organic Rattan Cane and Its Development as An Alternative Usable Drinking Straw

Abstract

This research paper aimed to determine the development of organic rattan cane as an alternative usable drinking straw. It used an experimental research design where questionnaires were pre-tested and post-tested. The survey was conducted to gather all the data and information from the respondents involved in this study. They were residents of Paete, Laguna. The questionnaire of both pre-test and post-test was composed of three parts: the first part determined the respondent?s demographic profile, which included age, sex, location, employment status, and monthly income; the second part included the extent of organic rattan cane as an alternative usable drinking straw in terms of appearance, reliability and biodegradability; lastly, the level of development as an alternative usable drinking straw was determined. The findings showed no significant difference between the level of development of organic rattan cane during the pre-test and post-test. This showed that the respondents' views on the rattan drinking straw's appearance, reliability, and biodegradability remained consistent before and after its usage. The standard deviation indicated that the responses were relatively close to the mean, indicating low opinion variability. The results showed that the development level on both the pre-test and post-test was high, which limited the potential to detect further statistically significant changes. However, the findings revealed that the respondents were largely satisfied after using rattan straws as a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional drinking straws.
