The advancement of embedded systems and IoT has enabled the development of intelligent safety solutions for motorcyclists. This project presents a IOT ? based Smart Helmet that integrates multiple safety features including alcohol detection, drowsiness monitoring, accident detection, and pothole recognition using a camera. The system uses a MQ-3 alcohol sensor, IR-based eye blink sensor, vibration sensor, and a camera with OpenCV to monitor rider conditions and road hazards in real time. A buzzer provides immediate audio alerts, while a DC motor simulates vehicle ignition and is activated only under safe conditions. Existing rider safety systems often use standalone features or require GPS modules for tracking, making them costlier and less adaptable. Many do not include proactive hazard detection like pothole warnings or real-time rider monitoring for drowsiness and alcohol influence. Moreover, most systems lack dynamic environmental adaptability and efficient data communication with external systems like mobile apps. The proposed system addresses these limitations by combining sensor-based rider safety checks, real-time pothole detection using computer vision, and Wi-Fi-based geolocation to send alerts via the MQTT protocol. The alerts are transmitted to a connected mobile application, informing emergency contacts in the case of accidents, intoxication, or fatigue. The use of IP geolocation eliminates the need for a GPS module, reducing hardware complexity and cost. By offering real-time feedback, location-aware alerts, and autonomous motor control, the helmet system greatly enhances rider safety and responsiveness to road conditions.
