A Micro-Economic View of the Effect of Mobile Money Use On the Profitability of Small-Scale Retailers
Subject area: Management and Commerce · Area of research: Effect of Mobile Money Use on the Profitability
Abstract
This study explores the effect of the adoption of mobile money use on the profits of retailers. The focus of the study is on the microscopic aspect leaving aside most of the macroeconomic elements associated with the topic. The study analyses these effects using different theories such as market competition, demand, and supply among others. This research was done using secondary research analysis. This means, that past research and data on mobile money use in small-scale businesses were analysed to come up with the findings for the study. The focus on this topic is based on the fact that most traders in Kenya are adopting mobile banking tools to enhance profitability through mechanisms such as the provision of efficient transactions and increasing sales. Through the microeconomic theory analysis of this topic, the study goes further to provide recommendations on how to fully support and equip mobile money use in small businesses.
