Abstract

This study investigates the geothermal potential of part of the Lower Benue Trough, Nigeria, using high-resolution aeromagnetic data from Sheet 269 (Ankpa). Magnetic anomalies were analyzed to estimate Curie Point Depth (CPD) and terrestrial heat flow, which are vital indicators of subsurface thermal conditions. The CPD values range from 9.2 km to 17.6 km, with shallower depths and elevated heat flow, up to 171.0 mW/m², observed in the central and southern regions, particularly around Imane, Efofo, and Ogene, indicating promising zones for geothermal exploration. Conversely, deeper CPD and lower heat flow values in the northwest and northeast suggest thermally stable zones. These findings delineate promising geothermal areas and contribute valuable insights for sustainable energy development in the region.
