Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive systematic review of advanced drilling performance optimization techniques tailored for brownfield developments in the Niger Delta. It contextualizes the unique geological, operational, and infrastructural challenges inherent in mature fields, highlighting the critical need for adaptive and cost-effective drilling strategies. The review synthesizes foundational engineering principles, performance metrics, and optimization theories, bridging the gap between conceptual frameworks and practical applications. Key optimization methodologies, including drilling automation, bit and bottom-hole assembly design, and fluid management, are critically analyzed with emphasis on their relevance to the Niger Delta?s complex subsurface environment. The study further examines regional field applications, emphasizing workflows such as re-entry, sidetracking, and legacy data integration, while acknowledging persistent technological and organizational barriers to implementation. Industry implications underscore the importance of policy alignment, workforce upskilling, and collaborative contracting models. The paper concludes by advocating for integrated digital frameworks and AI-driven knowledge management to institutionalize continuous optimization and sustain performance improvements across the well life cycle in brownfield assets.
