Abstract

The Nigerian construction industry is experiencing a gradual shift from traditional, energy practices toward a more efficient and green building approach. This change reflects a growing awareness of the need to conserve energy, reduce emissions, and promote sustainable growth in the country. The successful delivery of green building (GB) projects has become a key priority for stakeholders in the industry, reflecting the country's move toward developing environmentally friendly and cost-effective residential buildings. To enable smooth implementation and delivery of GB projects in Nigeria, this study assesses the impact of controllable critical success factors (CSFs) that influence the success of these projects. Based on an extensive literature review and principal component analysis, 20 controllable CSFs were identified and classified into 5 main components: project management, personnel ability, teamwork-oriented, human resources, and financial and constraint factors. Furthermore, regression analysis revealed that project management, personnel ability, and financial and constraint factors have a significant and positive effect on green building delivery in the country. The study, therefore, provides valuable guidance for policymakers and practitioners in developing strategies to successfully implement green housing initiatives in Nigeria.
