Abstract

There were over 313,000 new cases of ovarian cancer in the year, making it the eighth most frequent malignancy among women. Ovarian cancer ranks as the fifth most common cause of cancer among women in Africa. It is the second most prevalent cancer among them. Menopause after the age of 55, attaining menarche before the age of 12, a family history of ovarian cancer, not having children, smoking, and hormone therapy are risk factors. Additionally, it has been observed that obesity and height raise the risk of ovarian cancer. Abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, frequent urination, early satiety, feeling full, or any changes in regular bowel habits are the most common symptoms of ovarian cancer. This study's main goal was to ascertain female undergraduates at the University of Ibadan's awareness and understanding of ovarian cancer risk factors and symptoms. Up to 351 female undergraduates at the University of Ibadan were chosen for a cross-sectional survey using the purposive sample technique. Data was gathered using a self-administered questionnaire. SPSS was used to analyze the data, including frequency, percentage, and chi-square test at the 0.05% significance level. Findings depicted that the demographic data showed that about 48% are between the ages 21 ? 23 years of age, this means that majority of the respondents are within the age range of an overage undergraduate student especially in Nigeria. The study further shows that 92% of female undergraduate students in the University of Ibadan have good awareness of ovarian cancer. This study has revealed that most female undergraduate have a considerable high knowledge about the symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer.
