      abstract = {The aim of this study is to determine level of awareness of Uyo residents to the selected radio stations? environmental sanitation sensitizations in Akwa Ibom state and their perception on environmental sanitation programmes on radio stations. In order to carry out the stated objectives, the study was anchored on Agenda setting and Uses and Gratifications theories while the survey design was used as the method to carry out the study. The study population comprised all the 1,329,000 Uyo resident. Thereafter, a sample size of 384 respondents were selected. Using questionnaire as the method data collection, the study found out that the respondents get information about environmental sanitation on Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), Planet FM 101.1, Comfort 95.1 FM, Inspiration FM 105.9, Atlantic FM, and Tangsio fm and that the methods of waste disposal respondents listen to on the radio include dumping method on radio, burning and landfill waste site method, composting method, burning/incinerating waste method and recycling method. The study also found out that the information respondents get on radio about environmental sanitation is very important and that radio programmes are an effective medium for disseminating information about environmental sanitation topics. The study however concluded that Uyo residents evaluate the environmental sanitation coverage on radio as excellent and very good because it of the respondents admitted that radio programme has helped them to know the solution for some of their environmental problems. It was therefore recommended that the journalists should be trained on various environmental issues and in professional journalism. It is when journalists themselves are aware that they can play a role in creating environmental awareness and that mass media in Nigeria should regularly sensitize the public on the need to manage their waste properly and other environmental issues. },
