The COVID-19 pandemic has driven the urgent need for reliable diagnostic methods to identify infected individuals and control viral spread. Chemical analysis of biological samples has been central to this effort, enabling the detection of SARS-CoV-2 through various techniques including RT-PCR, immunoassays, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. These methods provide high sensitivity and specificity by targeting viral RNA, antibodies, antigens, and molecular biomarkers. Advances in chemometrics and machine learning further enhance diagnostic accuracy and throughput. Despite challenges in standardization and resource limitations, chemical analysis remains indispensable for effective COVID-19 diagnosis and offers promising avenues for rapid, non-invasive, and automated testing solutions that support public health efforts globally.
