How Intimate Residential Assisted Living Models Facilitate the Reversal of Complex Medical Diagnoses: Wiselite Care Case Study
Abstract
Intimate residential assisted living models are revolutionizing the care of elderly and adults with complex medical conditions by offering a personalized, holistic approach that addresses not only physical health but also emotional and social well-being. These models focus on creating a home-like environment with a high caregiver-to-resident ratio, fostering deep connections between residents and caregivers. Recent evidence indicates that these models improve or even reverse conditions such as dementia, chronic pain, and mobility impairments. This study examines the success of Wiselite Care, a private elderly care home in Virginia, where a personalized care plan led to the reversal of a complex medical diagnosis in one resident. The theoretical frameworks of Person-Centered Care, Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care, and the Biopsychosocial Model provide the foundation for this model's success. Despite challenges such as high costs, staffing requirements, and resistance from patients or families, the long-term benefits of intimate care models suggest they offer a more effective, compassionate alternative to traditional nursing homes.
