Abstract

Activated carbon is a very important porous substance that is employed in various industrial applications. In this study, AC was synthesized from marula seed cake via singled-step activation with KOH and then thermally treated at 400, 500 and 600oC for an hour. The results indicates that increasing the activation temperature causes increased in rate of carbon adsorption. However, it was found that the activated carbons were within the microporous range with highest specific surface area of 368.396 m2/g at activation temperature of 600°C.
