Abstract

The United States shares nearly 7,500 miles of land border with Mexico and Canada, as well as rivers, lakes and coastal waters along both borders. Mexico is a region that has long been at the center of political, humanitarian, and security concerns with the US and the shared border between both countries is almost 2,000 miles. The US border security is tasked with preventing illegal immigration, human trafficking, and the movement of illicit drugs and contraband into the country. These challenges are compounded by the rugged terrain, limited manpower and most especially the various evolving methods employed by the criminal organizations.
