The Description and mapping of soil properties are essential for effective land use planning, infrastructure development, and sustainable urban growth. This study focuses on the development of a soil property map for Kolhapur City, aimed at identifying spatial variations in key geotechnical parameters. Standard soil samples were collected from various locations across the city and tested for properties such as grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, bulk density, moisture content, permeability, and shear strength. The obtained data were analysed and Merged using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to generate thematic maps depicting the distribution of different soil properties. The resulting soil property map provides valuable insights into soil behaviour, suitability for construction, and potential problem areas such as Vast or weak soils. This database will serve as a useful resource for engineers, planners, and policymakers involved in infrastructure design and urban development within Kolhapur.
