Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Engineering Management coursework on the problem-solving performance of final-year Aeronautical Engineering students in a university setting. In engineering education, the integration of management principles into the technical curriculum has been advocated to better equip graduates for multidisciplinary challenges in the aerospace industry. However, limited empirical data exist regarding the actual effect of such coursework on cognitive skills such as analytical reasoning, decision-making, and structured problem-solving. Using a descriptive-survey design, this research examines the relationship between students? exposure to Engineering Management topics (such as operations strategy, project management, and systems thinking) and their self-perceived and demonstrable problem-solving competencies. A structured questionnaire and problem-based assessment tool were administered to 60 final-year students enrolled in the Aeronautical Engineering program. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson?s correlation, and regression analysis to assess how course exposure influences critical performance indicators. Preliminary findings suggest a positive correlation between coursework in Engineering Management and improved strategic thinking, solution planning, and risk evaluation in design-based tasks. These findings contribute to ongoing curriculum reforms aimed at enhancing the industry readiness of engineering graduates.
