Abstract

The growing need for effective personal financial management has driven the development of digital tools that help individuals track and control their expenses efficiently. This paper presents a web-based Expense Tracker system designed to simplify financial monitoring through an intuitive interface and automated backend processes. The system enables users to add expenses, view transactions, manage pay-later entries, analyze spending via charts, and use a built-in calculator for quick financial computations. The architecture combines a Node.js backend with a MySQL database hosted on XAMPP, ensuring secure and efficient data handling. The HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frontend provides a responsive and user-friendly experience. Key features include expense categorization, real-time updates, and graphical visualization of financial patterns. System design models such as Data Flow Diagrams, Use Case Diagrams, and System Architecture Diagrams illustrate the overall workflow. Experimental results show that the system improves financial awareness, reduces manual effort, and offers valuable spending insights. Its modular design supports future enhancements like AI-driven budgeting and automated expense prediction, making it a reliable and accessible solution for modern digital finance management.
