Abstract

This work provides an assessment of inter party crises and the challenges of democracy with a focus on the fourth republic. The study posit that the persistent nature of intraparty crisis portent grace danger to democratization process in Nigeria. The study adopts the secondary method of data collection which entails the systematic analysis of secondary data such as textbooks, journals seminar paper, newspaper and magazines etc. The study reveals that indeed intra-party crisis is not a new phenomenon to politics in Nigeria, but noted however, that it has increased significantly in the fourth republic resulting in tension and general instability within the polity through its manifestation in the form of violence, court litigations decamping. Assassinations, etc. It however recommends, the strict adherence by party guidelines and rules plus strict adherence to the rule of laws.
