This study examines how corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities contribute to social development in rural India, with a focus on Gujarat-like regions. It reviews the CSR concept and regulatory context (e.g. India’s Companies Act 2013 mandating 2% profit spending on CSR), and analyzes primary data from 60 rural respondents. A descriptive research design (survey and interviews) is used to assess awareness, participation, and impact of CSR programs in sectors like education, health, livelihood, and infrastructure. Key findings indicate that CSR initiatives have supported improvements in village education and health awareness, and some skill-development opportunities have arisen. However, many residents remain unaware of CSR projects in their area, and community participation in planning is limited. CSR benefits are often unevenly distributed, and projects tend to lack long-term sustainability. Major challenges identified include infrastructure gaps, top-down implementation, weak monitoring, and lack of collaboration with local stakeholders. The study concludes that while CSR can play a positive role in rural development, its effectiveness depends on tailoring projects to local needs, involving communities, and ensuring accountability. Recommendations include stronger community engagement, better coordination with government schemes, and ongoing evaluation to ensure CSR creates sustained social impact
