Abstract

This study was undertaken to assess/determine the concentration of some heavy metals of selected borehole water in Ubomu community in Idah LGA of Kogi State. Four water samples were collected from different points in the community. All the samples were analyzed for heavy metal concentration. The result obtained showed that some of the heavy metals determined were within the WHO/NSDWQ permissible limit for drinking water. The concentration of lead determined was 0.00mg/L indicating that the water was free of lead contamination. The concentration of zinc, copper and iron were within the WHO/NSDWQ permissible limit, whereas, the concentration of selenium, arsenic was above the WHO/NSDWQ permissible limits. Therefore, the water could be toxic for human consumption.
