Abstract

Digital payments ecosystems are an integral part of the financial services landscape globally, allowing individuals and businesses to carry out online, secure, instant payments through mobile apps, online banking, ecommerce and fintech. Digital payments are continually changing and developing, and software development teams are under more pressure than ever to quickly and reliably add new functionality, security patches and regulatory compliance, and performance improvements. The old-fashioned software release processes, with manual testing, few deployments and long release cycles are no longer sufficient to satisfy these requirements. Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) have become critical DevOps practices to help automate software integration, testing, validation and deployment during the software development lifecycle. But, in digital payment spaces, stringent security standards, massive transactions, regulatory compliance requirements and near zero downtime are some of the unique challenges for implementing CI/CD. In this article, we will explore some of the latest approaches that can be used to automate software delivery using effective CI/CD pipelines in digital payment systems. It covers DevSecOps principles, infrastructure as code, automated testing, containerization and cloud adoption, compliance automation, and optimizing the pipeline with AI. Additionally, a concept of CI/CD for digital payment platforms is proposed to showcase how automation, security and operational resilience can be incorporated into software delivery process. The review finds that good CI/CD pipelines can dramatically improve the speed of software deployment and software quality, as well as security and service reliability, and allow payment service providers to quickly adapt to changing customer needs and regulations.
