Teacher Professional Development in the Digital Age: A Narrative Review

Abstract
Teacher professional development has evolved as an integral component of twenty-first-century education. With growing reliance on technology, digital learning tools, and online resources, teaching and learning practices are undergoing dynamic changes, necessitating teacher professional development. The narrative review explored the role and impact of teacher development in the digital age. It highlights the opportunities, emerging technologies, and challenges associated with the development of teaching skills in a digital environment. The article also emphasizes the policies on teacher professional development and offers recommendations for enhancing professional learning. The study revealed that professional development supports teachers to acquire knowledge and skills to function effectively in a constantly evolving educational ecosystem. It also found that the digital age presents unique opportunities and challenges for teacher development, professional growth, and teaching-learning processes. The discussion sheds light on the importance of continuous teacher development and emphasizes the role of professional learning in enhancing teaching skills and promoting lifelong learning.
