Digital Project Controls Using Primavera P6, EcoSys, and Power BI in Large-Scale EPC Projects

Subject area: Science,Engineering and Technology  ·  Area of research: Power BI

Abstract

Large engineering, procurement, and construction projects depend on consistent information about scope, dates, expenditure, progress, and emerging changes. Nevertheless, the systems supporting these functions frequently operate with different reporting periods, coding structures, and approval rules. This structured narrative review examines how Primavera P6, EcoSys, and Power BI can be configured as complementary components of an integrated project controls environment. Peer-reviewed construction and project management literature is interpreted alongside official software documentation. The analysis distinguishes schedule calculation, commercial control, and management reporting, and develops a framework connecting these functions through controlled identifiers, period snapshots, reconciliation, and accountable decisions. The principal finding is conceptual: technical connectivity can improve access to information, but reliable control also requires compatible measurement rules and explicit ownership of each data domain. A proposed integration architecture, a measurement matrix, and a transparent arithmetic illustration demonstrate how reporting errors can arise even when individual source records are correct. The paper identifies implementation priorities for large EPC organizations and discusses their relevance to Saudi industrial programs. It concludes that integration should be assessed through traceability, reconciliation quality, forecasting discipline, and the closure of management actions. No project-level performance improvement is estimated because an implementation dataset was not available.
