AGRIGUIDE: Integrated Web Application for Farmers’ Support and Agricultural Marketing Places
Subject area: Science,Engineering and Technology · Area of research: Web Application
Abstract
Agriculture is an important source of livelihood and economic activity. Farmers need timely access to information about crops, cultivation practices, weather, market prices, agricultural services and locations where they can sell their produce. However, this information is often spread across different websites, offices, market systems and local networks. Searching across multiple sources can consume time and may make it difficult for farmers to compare available options. AgriGuide is proposed as an integrated web application that brings selected farmer-support services and agricultural marketing-place information into one platform. The application is intended to provide crop-related guidance, basic cultivation information, weather and advisory links, market-price information where reliable data is available, and a searchable directory of agricultural markets and support centres. Farmers can explore nearby regulated markets, collection centres, warehouses, input suppliers and relevant government or institutional services. The platform may also provide administrative facilities to manage information and review user-submitted updates. The proposed system follows a modular design with a responsive user interface, application server, database and optional external data integrations. A suitable implementation may use HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the front end, Python with Flask or Django for the back end, and MySQL or PostgreSQL for data storage. Map services and trusted agricultural data sources can be integrated subject to availability, licensing and verification. The primary objective is to improve information accessibility and help farmers make better-informed decisions. AgriGuide is not intended to replace agricultural officers, certified agronomists, official market authorities or government portals. Instead, it acts as a convenient information-access layer and directs users to authoritative sources for critical decisions. The project will be evaluated based on usability, correctness of stored information, search performance, responsiveness, security and overall usefulness.
