Abstract

This paper introduces a novel design of smart glasses specifically developed for visually impaired students, addressing the shortcomings of existing assistive devices in terms of cost and level of support. The main goal is to enhance various daily tasks through the utilization of wearable technology. As a proof of concept, the paper focuses on one application example: text recognition technology to aid in reading from physical materials. The design prioritizes affordability by utilizing the Raspberry Pi 2, a single board computer, as the central processing unit, along with the Raspberry Pi 2 camera for image capture. The experimental results confirm the successful functioning of the prototype.
