The increasing adoption of automation and intelligent technologies has transformed modern retail environments, creating a need for quicker, smarter, and more convenient shopping solutions. Conventional shopping systems often require customers to wait in long checkout lines, depend on manual barcode scanning, and involve greater human effort, which may cause delays and billing mistakes. To address these issues, this project focuses on the design and implementation of an IoT-enabled Smart Shopping Trolley integrated with RFID technology for automatic billing and wireless operation. The developed system uses an RFID reader to detect products attached with RFID tags, allowing fast and contactless item identification without traditional barcode scanning. An Arduino UNO microcontroller manages the scanned product data and updates the total amount instantly, which is shown on an LCD display in real time. This helps customers track their spending during shopping and improves convenience as well as billing transparency. Furthermore, the trolley includes an ESP8266 Wi-Fi module that provides IoT-based control through a mobile application. Customers can move the trolley using simple commands, making the system highly useful for senior citizens and physically disabled users. Trolley movement is achieved using DC motors controlled through an L298 motor driver, ensuring reliable and smooth performance.
