Abstract

Turbine are defined as the hydraulic machines which convert fluid energy (i.e., gases and liquids) into mechanical energy. This mechanical energy is used in running an electric generator which is directly coupled to the shaft of the turbine. Thus the mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy. Steam is the gaseous from of liquids (normally water). This steam is at high pressure is used to produce power plants. The steam so used will have high pressure and temperature, which may affect the other components (control valve, turbine blade etc.,) of the turbine, in turn affects the power generation. Our project aims at analyzing and control the defects caused in the control valves. Control valves are valves used to conditions such as flow, pressure, temperature, and liquid level by fully or partially opening or closing in response to signals received from controllers. Failure in control valve arises mostly due to heavy load, throttling movement of the steam, breaking in the stem and cone joint, bearing wear and washer wear. We have planned to rectify the above defects by analyzing the control valve no.2 in tuticorin thermal power station- tuticorin.
