Abstract

Jesmyn Ward’s novel “Sing, Unburied, Sing” narrates the account of a rural Mississippi family from the perspectives of three distinct characters: Jojo, a thirteen-year-old grappling with comprehending his surroundings; his drug-addicted mother, Leonie, haunted by her deceased brother’s memory; and a ghost named Richie, who perished in prison when he was a young boy.
