Abstract

In Nigeria, motorization has increased over the years, escalating road roughness. Conventional landuse planning that separates landuses, increases travel distance and time leading to poor road conditions. This study examines the condition of roads across land uses and its implications on residents in Ibadan. Direct observation was used to investigate the condition of roads using the International Roughness Index (IRI). IRI data was collected using the TotalPave android application tool. The study also analyzes vehicle volumetric counts, indicating that cars had the highest mean volume in all land-use types, particularly in commercial areas. Furthermore, road roughness assessments across different landuses highlight varying infrastructure conditions, with industrial landuse exhibiting the highest roughness indices. These findings contribute to understanding the road roughness in Ibadan and their interaction with different landuse types, which can inform urban transport policies and infrastructure planning.
