Abstract

Transmission line maintenance is critical for ensuring uninterrupted power delivery and preventing infrastructure failures. This project presents a compact and cost-effective robotic system designed for the inspection of transmission lines using a blend of accessible technologies. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the robot is controlled by an Arduino board and equipped with essential modules including a thermal sensor, camera, geared motors, and a Bluetooth module for wireless communication. The system can navigate along the transmission line, capturing thermal images and visual footage to detect hotspots or physical anomalies. Additionally, a rust detection module is integrated to identify early signs of corrosion on metallic structures. The robot's mobility is driven by geared motors, enabling smooth traversal of line cables. This human-assisted but semi-autonomous solution offers a safer and more efficient way to monitor critical infrastructure, minimizing the need for risky manual inspections while maintaining real-time connectivity with ground operators.
