Abstract

Job satisfaction enables every teaching staff to enhance his or her job commitment to the teaching job. Therefore, this study examined between teachers’ job satisfaction and productivity in public senior secondary schools in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. The researcher adopted descriptive of correlational type. Proportional sampling technique was used to select 365 teachers for the study. A research questionnaire titled “Teachers’ Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (TJSQ) and Productivity Questionnaire (PQ) were used to collect relevant data from the respondents. Two research questions were raised and answered using mean and standard deviation while one main and four research hypotheses were formulated and tested for this study using Pearson product moment correlation statistical method at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed the dimensions of teachers’ job satisfaction were high in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. The level of productivity was moderate in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. There was significant relationship between teachers’ job satisfaction and productivity in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. There was significant relationship between reward system and productivity in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. There was significant relationship between promotion opportunities and productivity in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. There was significant relationship between job safety and security and productivity in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. There was significant relationship between working conditions and productivity in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Kwara State government through TESCOM should improve on job satisfaction of teachers so that they could be improved on their productivity. Kwara State government through TESCOM should ensure that reward system are paid as at when due to school teachers so that they can be improved professionally and to be more productive in order to attain the set goals of the institution.
